Hepatitis C

How is it passed on?

Hepatitis C is usually spread by contact with open skin (e.g. damaged mouth, anus or vagina) and someone’s blood. If you have contact with your partner’s blood during oral, anal and vaginal sex then there is a chance that you could catch Hepatitis C.

Symptoms

Sometimes flu like symptoms or jaundice (yellowing of the skin). Some people don’t have any symptoms.

What are the long term effects?

Liver damage and chronic ill health.

Can you get rid of it?

Hepatitis C cannot always be cured but some people are cured by medication from a doctor which can have nasty side effects.
